Expedite the troubleshooting process for the most common issues by reviewing and answering the following questions for your product. 

General Troubleshooting Questions

  1. What is the storage model and serial numbers (Primary and Secondary)?
    1. What is the version of Hitachi Command Suite (HCS)?
  2. Is this a new deployment or an existing one?
  3. Can you validate Global Active Device (GAD) is configured correctly from Replication Tab?
    1. To Check: Click on “Set up Replication/GAD”? The upper left of each setting panel displays “Complete” when the elements have been successfully configured.
  4. Is the issue occurring while trying to change an existing volume to GAD Volume or while running “Allocate Volumes” task?
    1. If possible, please provide the screenshots of the error, such as GAD Wizard (Allocate Volumes/Allocate Like Volumes/Change existing volumes to GAD) or the related GAD task details.   
  5. What is the status of Pair Management servers being used in GAD? Please check whether the status is Valid or Invalid by logging into Hitachi Replication Manager (HRpM) and clicking on ‘server’ in Pair Configurations.
  6. Has SSL been configured between HCS products and Pair Management Server?
  7. What type of VSM is defined for the GAD configuration?
    1. If the customer defined their own VSM or created a VSM that has the same machine type or serial number as the primary storage, did the customer have sufficient resources (e.g., PG, Pool. LDEV ID, HG#, etc.) in the VSM?
  8. If an issue was caused due to an outage, what is the status of connections between MCU, RCU and Quorum? You can login into Storage Navigator and check the remote connections under Replication section.
  9. Please provide if you have any network diagram or design document that will explain the configuration.
  10. Have any troubleshooting steps been taken? What documentation, if any, have you followed so far?
